Ivy is a 30 year old romance/erotica/mystery writer living in Houston, Texas with her husband. Ivy has been writing for as long as she can remember and read her first romance at the age of fourteen. You could say it was love at first site. Since then Ivy, has read anything she can get her hands on. While she has always loved writing, she let that hobby sit on the back burner while pursuing a degree in political science and higher education. The love for writing never left. In 2015, Ivy decided to give up her day job and focus on writing the type of thing she loves to read. Her first book will be available for purchase in the Fall of 2016. In her free time, Ivy enjoys cooking, travel, wine tasting and singing really old country music at karaoke bars.
Take a peek at her writing. You’ll enjoy it! Now, on to the questions!
Do you prefer to write alone or in the company of other people?
I am a very social writer. I definitely prefer writing with others. Even if it’s just participating in word sprints on Twitter, I enjoy knowing that there are others writing with me. I like to attend write-ins and writing workshops whenever I can. I also enjoy writing in a crowded Starbucks.
How much research do you do?
A lot! I actually really love research. Yes, I was the weird kid in college that enjoyed writing research papers. Give me a 25 page paper over multiple choice test any day. For my Washington D.C. series I do a lot of research into how the politics of the city works. I’m also doing a lot of research into the world of professional poker players for Vegas Vigilante.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do! I was very young, maybe ten. I was obsessed with native Americans and pilgrims. I hand wrote an entire book about Squanto and his relationship with the pilgrims. By book I mean like 20 pages. I drew little pilgrim hats at the top of each chapter that had the chapter number inside. I was so proud of myself.
What is the hardest thing about writing?
Learning to squash the voice that says I’m not good enough is something that I struggle with. A technical thing I struggle with is outlining.
What is your favorite drink?
Jameson on the rocks!
